What Does an Open Fractional CMO Community Look Like?

Anna Rose

The Beginning.

It can be lonely being an independent Fractional CMO. It can be difficult to find your tribe, or people with similar challenges and opportunities who have a chance to help each other out.

Here at Grow, we want to help you find a home within the CMO community. Whether that be with a select audience, team, or home community, we want to help kick start you on your journey toward navigating your niche.

In this blog, we’re going to break down and demystify exactly what it means to have a community of Fractional CMO’s and why we’re so passionate about creating an environment of, by, and FOR fractional CMOs and iCMOS (GROW’s version of Fractional CMOs = interim CMOs).

To establish an audience is to gather a steady, consistent following within mediated spaces through email marketing, LinkedIn posts, and one-way information dispatch. While effective in establishing a brand image, this is not the final stop for iCMOs, but rather, the beginning.

So, where does your journey begin here at GROW?

Here at GROW, we’re looking to collaborate with experts who share similar, growth-driven mindsets. At GROW, we are nurturing a budding community that we like to call ‘FraCMO.’ Made by and geared toward fractional CMOs and iCMOs, we have been fostering the FraCMO community alongside various CMOs, CEOs, VC firms, and B2B tech companies in anticipation of the exponential shift currently taking place toward the fractional CMO model.

Long story short, the traditional CMO model has seen drastic changes within the tech space these past few years, and we want to build a community where we share, learn and grow togetherWe’ve seen the anxieties surrounding the Fractional CMO model amongst current CMOs, and we want to be there to support a community with all of the resources that you might need to shift to a growth-based mindset as a new fractional CMO, surrounded by peers who are ready to support and guide you through the journey.

One of the best ways to do this is to visit our website, where you can be connected to our FraCMO Slack channel, a thriving democratic space to explore the Fractional lifestyle. Remember: what happens in FraCMO, stays in FraCMO.

FAQ

We’re sure you have questions, so we’ll make it simple.

“Isn’t a fractional CMO just a consultant?”

Not exactly. Fractional CMOs typically come with a level of leadership that involves elements of team creation, go-to-market mapping and company-wide collaboration that side-steps the duties of the more adaptable, project-specific consultant.

“What do you mean by ‘community’?”

When we say ‘community,’ we mean that we intend for FraCMO to be a completely democratic, hands-off channel of communication for fractional CMOs interested in pursuing the fractional CMO lifestyle. Our ultimate goal is for this community to take on an independent life of its own, with multiple streams of incoming dialogue. We are not interested in micromanagement, we’re only interested in inspiring the next cohort of iCMOs.

“Does the world really need another community?”

If we’re honest, we can’t say for sure. But what we do know is that the fractional CMO discipline is expanding at a fairly fast rate, and our biggest goal is to foster a space for that growth. Both individual and corporate fractional CMOs can determine their own understanding of what a ‘community’ truly is, but our goal is to guide you along to your destination without forcing you into a certain box. What you want is what we want, full stop.

“So, what’s in it for you?”

From an individual perspective, we have the same goals as many of you: high growth, high engagement, and community expansion. We want to share this community far and wide so that we can afford talented, driven individuals within the CMO space the opportunity to learn about the fractional CMO arena.

“What will I get out of this?”

The old adage is true: you get out of it what you put into it. Where are you willing to focus your efforts? Are you ready for the independence of the iCMO life? In truth, we can’t answer this for you, but we can say that we’ll be there for you, should you decide to take the leap.

“Where can we find more fractional CMO job posts?”

While our FraCMO community does not focus on job listings in particular, we can point you in the right direction to discuss supply and demand, client opportunities, and team-building. You can also subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on LinkedIn to discover more iCMO opportunities.

In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned for our next livestream on Tuesday, July 26th, where we'll be analyzing brand vs. demand in tech startup spaces with fellow iCMO, Raphael Carty.

All the best,
